How I tested Omnisend

For the video above, I dug into Omnisend's features and pricing: the email and SMS builder, SMS tools, the Omnisend MCP, forms and popups, AI segmentation and the free migration. Then I re-checked the plans and SMS rates on Omnisend's own pricing page in October 2026, so the numbers below are what you'd pay in the US today.

What is Omnisend?

Omnisend is an email and SMS marketing platform built specifically for ecommerce. We're talking email campaigns, SMS, push notifications, automations, popups and reporting, all in one place. It plugs straight into Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix and every major store platform with no third-party connectors.

That's a big part of why over 150,000 brands run on it. Every plan, including the free one, comes with 24/7 live chat and email support.

Why ecommerce brands are leaving Klaviyo for Omnisend

The short answer is SMS cost. Klaviyo recently raised its SMS pricing, and right around the same time Omnisend dropped its own. Omnisend actually made its cut before Klaviyo raised prices.

The second reason is the switch itself. Omnisend's team moves your setup over for free, so the work of switching is mostly off your plate. I cover that in the migration section below. If you're still comparing options, here are the other Klaviyo alternatives for ecommerce I looked at.

Who Omnisend is for

If you run an ecommerce store on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix, and you want email, SMS and popups in one tool without an enterprise bill, Omnisend is built for you. It's an especially good fit if you're already on Klaviyo or Mailchimp, you're tired of the price creep and you want a modern tool.

Pick Omnisend if:

  • You run a store on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix

  • You want SMS inside the same flows as your email, not as a separate add-on

  • You'd like to run your marketing from Claude or ChatGPT

  • You want Omnisend's team to move your setup off your old platform for free

Omnisend's key features

1. Email and SMS in the same automation

With Omnisend, email and SMS live in the same campaign builder and the same automation. Most tools treat SMS as an add-on you bolt on later. Here, your abandoned cart flow can start with an email and follow up with a text, all in one flow.

Why does that matter? Because the follow-up text is often what recovers the sale. One Omnisend customer gets 70% of its total revenue from automations alone.

You also upload your brand assets once, and the drag-and-drop builder keeps every campaign on brand without a designer.

2. SMS marketing, with compliance built in

Omnisend's SMS goes deep: automated texts, bulk campaigns, two-way replies, quiet hours and TCPA-friendly signup forms. You drop SMS right into your automation, so the abandoned cart text goes out on its own with a one-off discount code that's unique to that customer.

Here's what you get on the SMS side:

  • Bulk campaigns sent to any segment

  • Two-way SMS, so customers can text you back

  • Quiet hours, so nobody gets a message at 2 AM

  • Signup forms built to support TCPA rules with double opt-in, so you collect numbers the right way from day one

Everyone is constantly on their phone. Omnisend reports an average return of $79 for every $1 its customers spend, based on its own internal analysis of 2025 revenue from paid-plan stores. One of its customers saw $121 back for every dollar spent on SMS campaigns.

In 2026, SMS needs to be part of your strategy, not something you avoid because of the cost. The pricing section below has the per-text math.

3. Omnisend MCP: run your marketing from Claude or ChatGPT

The Omnisend MCP connects your account to your favorite LLM, like ChatGPT or Claude, so your AI can see your real marketing data and act on it. MCP is the standard that lets AI tools connect directly to software, and Omnisend built it right into the platform. It's listed on every plan, including Free.

Instead of digging through dashboards, you ask a simple question like:

  • "What were my top campaigns by revenue last month?"

  • "Why did open rates drop last week?"

  • "Pull our top subject lines from Black Friday last year."

And you get an answer pulled from your actual account. You can also tell it to build a segment of lapsed customers, draft a re-engagement campaign and set it up for your review.

For a business owner or a small marketing team, this is like hiring an email strategist full-time. You can do all of your work directly in your favorite LLM, which is something I love.

4. Forms, popups and landing pages

Omnisend includes popups, landing pages and spin-to-win style forms, all from pre-made templates you can match to your brand. Each one can capture email and SMS opt-ins at the same time, so one signup feeds both channels. None of the features above work if you don't have a list to send to.

Just think about this. Your list is the one marketing asset you actually own. No algorithm changes, no rising ad costs. It's yours.

If you want a smarter setup, you can have the AI build the form for you. You just describe what you want. Omnisend calls this Forms AI, and it's included on every plan.

5. AI segmentation

You describe an audience, and Omnisend's AI builds the segment from your real store data. Something like "high spenders who haven't bought in the last 60 days" turns into a working segment.

You can still segment by behavior, purchase history, engagement or all three. Segmentation is one of those things store owners know they should do but don't, because building the rules is tedious. Sending the right message to the right segment can make all the difference, and this takes the tedious part away.

6. Free 5-day migration

If you're on Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another platform, Omnisend's team moves everything over for you at no extra cost. We're talking about your contacts, your live workflows, your segments, up to five signup forms and your master template, all rebuilt by their team in five days. Free migration is listed on every plan.

This is my favorite part, because the free migration removes the switching costs.

At 1,000 contacts, Standard is $20 a month and gives you 12,000 emails a month. That's the sweet spot for growing stores focused on email.

Pro starts at $59 a month and unlocks unlimited monthly emails, the advanced AI features and SMS credits at Omnisend's volume rates. It's built for high-volume senders who want email and SMS working together. Omnisend also adds a free account expert once you spend $400 or more a month.

Watch the jump at 2,500 contacts. Standard goes from $30 to $44, while Pro holds at $59 up to 2,500. At that size, Pro costs $15 more a month and buys you unlimited emails and SMS credits.

The free plan gives you 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, which is perfect for testing the platform before you commit.

Omnisend SMS pricing

US texts on Omnisend cost $0.007 to $0.009 each, depending on how much you spend on SMS in a month.

Run the math at 10,000 texts a month. At $0.0085 per text, that's $85 a month. In the video, I said the starting rate covers US and Canada recipients. The rate table I checked on the pricing page lists US rates, so if most of your list is in Canada, confirm your rate inside your account.

Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?

In the video, I said most brands come out paying 35% less than on their old platform. Omnisend's own fine print is narrower: Standard comes in up to 35% cheaper than Klaviyo's email-only Marketing plan, based on public standard rates from May 2026, without SMS or add-ons. Your savings depend on your list size, plan and region.

On SMS, I put Klaviyo's US rate at 1.20 cents per message in the video. Omnisend's US rate runs 0.7 to 0.9 cents. That gap sounds small until you're sending 5,000 or 10,000 texts a month.

Omnisend pros and cons

Pros:

  • Email and SMS in the same automations, with unique discount codes per customer

  • US SMS from $0.009 down to $0.007 per text

  • Omnisend MCP connects your real store data to Claude or ChatGPT

  • AI segmentation from a plain-English description

  • Free 5-day migration from Klaviyo, Mailchimp and other platforms

  • A free plan, and 24/7 support on every plan

  • Popups, spin-to-win forms and landing pages included

Cons:

  • The $0.007 rate only applies once you spend $10,000 or more a month on US SMS; most stores will pay $0.0085 to $0.009

  • The pricing page's rate table covers US SMS, so Canadian stores need to confirm their rate

  • Standard caps your emails at 12 times your list size

  • The free plan requires Omnisend branding

  • The "35% less" figure is an up-to number against Klaviyo's email-only plan, without SMS

What I liked and what to watch for

What I liked: the free migration is my favorite part, because it removes the switching costs that keep stores stuck. The MCP is right behind it. Being able to do all of my marketing work directly in my LLM is something I love.

What to watch for: the headline SMS rate is the high-volume rate, so do your math with $0.009 or $0.0085 if you're a smaller store. And check the plan jump around 2,500 contacts, where Pro can make more sense than Standard.

My final take

If you run an ecommerce store on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix and you want email, SMS and popups in one tool without an enterprise bill, Omnisend is built for you. It's an especially good fit if you're on Klaviyo or Mailchimp and tired of the price creep. Start on the free plan, and move to Standard or Pro once your list grows. If you want help planning what to send, here's how to automate your ecommerce email calendar with AI.
